Job Summary:

The Automaton Manager will be responsible for managing personnel in their daily duties for automation implementation and maintenance for clients. This position will demand strategic sales in the automation sector for producing a staff workload. A combination of strong leadership qualities in parallel with the abilities of designing, programming, testing, and troubleshooting automated control systems are necessary. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in PLC programming and a thorough understanding of industrial automation principles and processes.  

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing an automation team to support IPS clientele in daily operations of automated controls.
  • Performing routine sales calls to clients new/existing for automation solutions to operational needs.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and end-users to define control system requirements and specifications.
  • Develop PLC programmers with experience in using ladder logic, structured text, or other programming languages to control machinery, equipment, and processes.
  • Assist in the configuration and integration processes for PLC hardware, including selecting appropriate PLC models, I/O modules, and communication interfaces.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of HMI (Human Machine Interface) screens and operator interfaces for monitoring and controlling PLC-based systems.
  • Collaborate with electrical and mechanical technicians to ensure proper installation, wiring, and integration of PLC hardware and control schemes for projects.
  • Provide technical support and training to technicians and programmers working in the field daily.
  • Stay up to date with advancements in PLC technology, communications, and automation best practices.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in managing personnel/projects related to automation scope of work.
  • Proven experience working as a PLC Programmer or in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in programming PLCs from leading manufacturers such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley (Rockwell Automation), or Schneider Electric.
  • Strong understanding of PLC programming languages, including ladder logic, structured text, and function block diagrams.
  • Experience with PLC hardware selection, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus, and Profibus.
  • Knowledge of HMI software (e.g., Wonderware, FactoryTalk) and SCADA systems is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and travel to customer sites as needed.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to industrial automation systems.

 

Work Environment:

  • This role is situated within an indoor/outdoor environment and regularly will be conducted in various weather conditions.
  • While executing job responsibilities, the employee will regularly engage in verbal communication with employees.
  • Additionally, physical demands include standing, walking, manual dexterity tasks, and reaching.
  • Occasional physical activities may include sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The position involves frequent lifting and moving of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • This is a full-time position with working hours scheduled during various hours and on call schedules.

While executing job responsibilities, the employee may be required to engage in occasional standing, walking, sitting, manual manipulation of objects, tools, or controls, reaching, climbing stairs, and verbal communication. Additionally, the employee may occasionally need to lift or move office products and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.

 

Travel:

  • Daily travel within a limited area is expected for this position.
